Citizen CL-S621II — a label still readable next year

A direct thermal label is fine on a parcel that arrives in three days. It is not fine on a product that sits on a shelf for a year, moves through cold storage, or gets handled. The CL-S621II prints with a ribbon: the pigment transfers into the label under heat and stays there, instead of fading in sunlight or warmth. The same machine also runs direct thermal, so you can use cheaper stock when durability does not matter.

Wider media than the CL-S521II

It takes media up to 118 mm wide and prints 104 mm of it. In practice that means a bordered label sheet or a wider backing paper goes through the machine without being trimmed first.

It replaces an old Zebra in place

EPL, ZPL and Datamax command sets are built in, so existing warehouse or carrier software finds the printer without modification. Two interfaces, USB and RS232, means the install does not fail because the bench PC only has one of them.

A good fit for

Warehouses and production lines where the label follows the product for a long time, and businesses with cold or outdoor storage. Also good for product labels carrying a logo or other graphics. Not a fit if you only send address labels on a fast turnaround — the CL-S521II costs less and needs no ribbon. If the label carries small text or a dense barcode, choose the CL-S631II at 300 dpi.
