Referenssipalvelu – SaaS Platform Modernization and Expansion

We were responsible for a year-long development package for the Reference Service, where the SaaS platform was modernized and expanded with new functionalities — without interruption for paying customers. Technical modernization: Laravel 8 → 12 upgrade, PHP 8.4, asynchronous image processing pipeline with background queues and automatic recovery, and container and logging hardening. Multilingualism: we built a unified LanguageService architecture and replaced three legacy components with a single Alpine-based multilingual field that supports translations and AI enhancements. AI assistance: we integrated OpenAI into the editor with one-click content enhancement functionality and configuration-based prompts. Extensibility: we released a WordPress plugin and a public REST interface protected by an API key. In addition, we redesigned the front page, added customizable categories, saveable filter views, and expanded image format support (SVG, HEIC, AVIF).
