About
Datalogic PowerScan PD9630 — a handheld scanner built for daily hard use
The PowerScan PD9630 is a professional-grade 2D barcode scanner designed to keep up with the daily demands of a shop floor, stockroom, or workshop — without skipping a beat. It uses Auto Range imaging technology, which means the same device reads a barcode on a countertop label and one on a shelf several metres away. You don't need two scanners for two situations.
Reads damaged and awkwardly placed codes
The PD9630 includes built-in Digimarc support, which lets it read digitally watermarked codes alongside standard barcodes. In practice, this means the scanner handles partially damaged or hard-to-position codes that would cause a more basic reader to stall — fewer rescans, less time held up at the counter.
Handles splashes, dust, and drops
The device carries both IP65 and IP67 ratings. IP65 means it withstands pressurised water jets; IP67 means it survives brief submersion. Day to day, this translates to café moisture splashes, workshop grime, and stockroom dust doing no lasting damage. A vibration alert confirms every successful scan — useful in a noisy kitchen or warehouse where a beep gets lost in background noise.
Connects to new and older till systems alike
The PD9630 is a multi-interface model: the same physical device supports both USB and RS232 connections. A USB cable is included in the box, so the scanner is ready to use straight away. If you're running an older till with an RS232 port, you're covered without having to replace your checkout system just to gain compatibility.
Warranty and origin
The scanner comes with a 36-month warranty and is manufactured in Vietnam. Datalogic is an Italian specialist in industrial and retail automation; their scanners are in everyday use across European shops and warehouses.
Particularly well suited to
- Shops that scan both at the shelf and at the till
- Workshops and stockrooms where the device is exposed to dust or moisture
- Businesses running an older RS232-based till setup
- Environments where a beep won't always be heard — the vibration alert takes care of feedback
