Zebra DS9308 – Hands-Free Barcode Scanner for Your Counter

The Zebra DS9308 is a presentation scanner built for the counter: place it on your till, and it scans products and phone screens as customers pass them in front of it — no picking it up, no pressing buttons, no slowing down the queue.

It reads both 1D and 2D barcodes, including loyalty cards and tickets displayed on a phone screen. The reading range is 0–27.9 cm, so customers can hold items at a natural height on the counter without awkward angles or extra instructions from your staff.

Keeps up on a busy Friday afternoon

The DS9308 uses 2D imager technology, which picks up codes reliably even when they are poorly printed, slightly damaged, or displayed on a screen with varying brightness. The scanner detects and reads the code automatically the moment it enters the scan zone — no trigger pull, no waiting.

In a café or shop where every second at the till matters, that consistency makes a real difference. The queue keeps moving whether it is a quiet Tuesday morning or a packed Saturday rush.

Connects to your existing till setup

The DS9308 supports four interface types: USB, RS232, KBW, and RS485. In practice, this means it connects to almost any till system you are already running, without extra adapters or configuration work. Most systems will recognise the scanner automatically when plugged in via USB.

The interface cable is not included — you order it separately to match your own till. That way you get exactly what fits your setup and nothing you do not need gathering dust in a drawer.

Built to survive the counter

The DS9308 carries an IP52 protection rating: it handles everyday dust and the occasional liquid splash. For a café or retail counter, that is the right level of protection for normal daily use — it will not be damaged by a stray coffee spill or the dust that builds up on a busy counter.
