About
Zebra DS4608 — Handheld Scanner for Daily Use
The Zebra DS4608 is built for the kind of use a shop counter, workshop, or stock room actually throws at it. It reads every common 2D and 1D barcode format as well as printed OCR text — whether you're scanning from a shelf edge, a delivery label, or a worn packaging barcode that other scanners struggle with.
Connects to the till you already have
The DS4608 works over both USB and RS232. A 2 m straight USB cable is included in the box, so you can have the scanner running without ordering anything extra. RS232 support means it also connects to older POS systems where USB simply isn't an option — no adapters, no workarounds.
Survives counter life without complaint
The IP52 rating keeps dust and light splashes from causing problems. It won't survive a full dunking, but it handles the damp environment of a café counter or a workshop bench — and the occasional knock from a shelf edge — without issue.
OCR reading cuts out manual keying
The DS4608 reads printed text optically, not just barcodes. When a product or document carries a serial number or reference as plain text rather than a barcode, the scanner picks it up directly. You don't need to type anything in by hand, which saves time and removes the risk of keying errors during a busy spell.
Standard range — reliable reach across a counter
The SR (standard range) imager is calibrated for the distances you actually work at: handing something across a counter, scanning a label on a shelf at arm's length, or checking a package on a bench. You don't need to hunt for a sweet spot — point and scan.
Five-year warranty, made by Zebra
The scanner carries a five-year warranty, so it earns its keep over a long service life without additional cost. Manufactured in China under Zebra's own quality controls.
