# Vaivatta auth.md

How an AI assistant connects to vaivatta.fi on behalf of a buyer. Read this before you ask for access.

## Who may connect

Any assistant a buyer has asked to act for them. The buyer is a person with a verified vaivatta. account who signs in
on our consent page and approves exactly what the assistant may do. Without a grant, the assistant can still search
and read the public catalogue; nothing in the catalogue needs a token.

## The MCP server

https://vaivatta.fi/mcp (streamable HTTP). The server card is at https://vaivatta.fi/.well-known/mcp/server-card.json.

The catalogue tools work without signing in. These buyer tools need a grant with the scope shown:

| Tool | Scope |
| --- | --- |
| my_account | `account:read` |
| list_orders | `orders:read` |
| get_order | `orders:read` |
| get_cart | `cart:write` |
| add_to_cart | `cart:write` |
| update_cart_line | `cart:write` |
| remove_cart_line | `cart:write` |
| apply_coupon | `cart:write` |
| remove_coupon | `cart:write` |
| request_quote | `quotes:write` |
| request_price_comparison | `quotes:write` |
| start_checkout | `checkout` |

A buyer tool called without a usable token answers 401 with a `WWW-Authenticate` header that points at the protected-resource metadata; ask the buyer to connect. It answers 403 when the grant lacks the tool's scope, and tells a guest assistant to ask the person to open its claim link.

The cart belongs to the grant, not to the buyer's web cart, and quantities are packs. The writing tools take an
optional `request_id`: send the same one again when you retry after a timeout, and the change is made once. apply_coupon
puts a discount code the person gave on the cart and remove_coupon takes it off; the shop prices the code, refuses it in
words, and may ask for the person's e-mail (a once-per-buyer code on a connection without an account), which you pass as
`email`. Apply the code before start_checkout: the link is bound to the cart as it is. A quote
request for a signed-in buyer is answered to their account's e-mail; a guest assistant gives the person's name and
e-mail. start_checkout answers a link on https://vaivatta.fi that the person opens to check the cart, accept the terms and
pay; it works once, for 30 minutes, and you never pay or accept the terms yourself.
start_checkout is listed only while the shop's checkout is open.

## Metadata

- Authorization server: https://vaivatta.fi/.well-known/oauth-authorization-server
- Protected resource (this shop): https://vaivatta.fi/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource
- Protected resource (MCP server): https://vaivatta.fi/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource/mcp

Use the authorization code flow with PKCE (S256 only) and a `state` value. The response carries `iss`; check it.
Register by client ID metadata document (`client_id` is an https URL) or by dynamic registration at
https://vaivatta.fi/oauth/register. Send `resource=https://vaivatta.fi/mcp` in the authorization and token requests; a request
without it means that resource.

## A2A

The same shop answers A2A 1.0 agents at https://vaivatta.fi/a2a (JSON-RPC, header `A2A-Version: 1.0`); the card is at
https://vaivatta.fi/.well-known/agent-card.json. Its buyer skills take the same tokens and scopes as the MCP buyer tools.

## Scopes

- `account:read`: read the buyer's name, company, addresses and loyalty balance
- `orders:read`: list the buyer's orders and read one, with its status and invoice link
- `cart:write`: keep one cart for this grant: add, change and remove lines
- `quotes:write`: send a quote or price comparison request in the buyer's name
- `checkout`: turn the grant's cart into a payment link that the buyer opens and pays; never pre-selected

## Sending the token

Send the access token on every MCP request as a header:

    Authorization: Bearer <access_token>

Access tokens last one hour. Refresh with the refresh token at https://vaivatta.fi/oauth/token. Never send the token in a URL.

## Anonymous registration and the claim link

An assistant with no buyer present may register anonymously: POST to https://vaivatta.fi/agent/auth. It receives a bearer
credential with no account data, a claim code and a claim secret. To connect it to a buyer, send the buyer to
https://vaivatta.fi/oauth/lunasta/{claim_code}. The claim code goes only in that link. The buyer signs in and approves the
scopes there.

Meanwhile the assistant polls POST https://vaivatta.fi/oauth/token with
`grant_type=urn:workos:agent-auth:grant-type:claim` and its `claim_secret`. The answer is `authorization_pending`
until the buyer approves, then the new tokens. Poll every 5 seconds or slower; `slow_down` means wait longer between
requests.

## Disconnecting

The buyer can remove an assistant at any time under Tili (the account page) on vaivatta.fi. The assistant can revoke
its own token with POST https://vaivatta.fi/oauth/revoke.

## What an assistant may never do

Whatever the scope, an assistant cannot:

- change the buyer's e-mail, password or profile
- delete addresses
- accept or decline order-change proposals
- spend loyalty points
- make consent decisions
- sign out other sessions
- accept the terms of sale (a person does that on our checkout page)
